Using paper are often a good idea for complex or small camouflage patterns because the paper is easy to cut into the correct shape.
The paper masks are applied to the model with very small balls of blue tac. This makes it easy to apply around curves and also slightly raises the mask from the surface of the kit.
The slightly raised mask results in a fine feathered line between the camouflage patterns.
