While I'm working on my F-104G and Tracker I thought it would be a good time to upload another older build. Today we have Italeri's old faithful A-7E which is based on the ESCI kit, as many Italeri kits are.
The Italeri and Fujimi A-7 kits were the best on the block for quite some time and they both feature good panel detail and similar fit. The also both suffer from the same issue in that the rear of the cockpit needs to be rebuilt if you want to accurately model the cockpit with the canopy open.
The Italeri kit also suffers from a very short jet intake. Unless you want to cover the intake with a FOD cover (which is supplied - thankfully) then you'll need to create a deep mouth with some rolled up card or plastic.
Nowdays HobbyBoss have also released an A-7 which suffers from non of the above problems and also includes some nicely detailed avionics bays. However the HB kit is generally quite a bit more expensive (and features some really horrid drop tanks)
I really enjoyed the kit, Italeri kits and me just seem to get along for some reason :) The fit is always pretty good, the detail is fine and the decals always work well.
Just as well too, as I have several more of them in my stash to build in Gecko and other various schemes.
